May Life Update (+ Fun Links!)

Lake Chelan at dusk.

Hello! How are you? How was your May?

Hunter and I performed and taught at the Montreal Salsa Convention. We had our best show yet, and we took home first place in Salsa, Cha Cha, and Hustle heats. I’m so proud of all the progress I see in the videos from the event

The following weekend we performed at a different event and I had the worst show I’ve had in months. It’s been a while since I’ve come off stage feeling disappointed (if you’ve never felt it, it’s a terrible, nasty low feeling). But the experience reminded me life doesn’t move in an upward diagonal but instead in a series of twists and turns that run in all different directions. I’ve definitely learned to appreciate and trust this natural ebb and flow in the last year.

In May I also threw my first #GoDeeper dance class with my good friend and dance coach Anya Katsevman. It was everything I hoped it would be! My heart is still full from the incredible souls who showed up physically and emotionally to dance with us. Our next class is in New York on June 27th, and if you’re in or around the city, I’d love to see you there.

Finally, I spent last week in Chelan, a beautiful lake town a few hours outside of Seattle, Washington. It was so nice to spend a few days with my dad and sister. We hung out in the sun, ate a lot of delicious food, and I got to enjoy a few quiet mornings reading and journaling in bed, one of my favorite simple pleasures.

After so many weekends away, I’m looking forward to June in New York…and to finally crossing off some items on my personal to-do list, like installing the AC units in the apartment and putting away my winter clothes.

What are you looking forward to this month? What was May like for you? Reply to this email. I’d love to know!

A Few Other Things

✈️ There are two types of airport people. Which one are you?

🍸 How giving up alcohol changed this woman’s life.

🎧 I loved this podcast episode of Death, Sex, and Money with Trevor Noah. He talks about mental health and feeling like an outsider while growing up in apartheid South Africa.

📚 A great summer read. Especially if you’re taking a family vacation.

🤔 Why are women called ‘Influencers’ and men ‘Creators’?

I love this one about how to determine if you’re in the right relationship (it involves Gilmore Girls!).
